From as early as Ian can remember, he wanted to be a pilot. A discovery of travel and photography
interrupted this and he found he would rather photograph them than fly them. He has been actively
involved in the warbird movement since 1984 and has taken images of virtually every warbird in
New Zealand.
Ian was the inaugural Director of the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum and is also a key player in the biennial Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow, looking after media and heading the commentary team.
He has commentated often at the Flying Legends Airshow at Duxford and in 2008 as well as the Biggin Hill Air Fair and Cotswold Airshow.
In 1987 he spent time with Microsoft at Redmond as a consultant on Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator.
A recognised expert on World War II aviation and fighter pilots, he was the Vice
President of the international Aviation Heritage Group for a number of years.
The drone of flying engines
Is a song so wild and blue
It scrambles time and seasons if it gets thru to you
Then your life becomes a travelogue
Of picture-post-card-charms
Amelia, it was just a false alarm
